My first try at bloomers! FAIL.

Also quite incomplete but the major pieces are there.

The sweater was a lucky find in a thrift store that got amateurishly altered to get the vertical pintucks. The lanterns were two plastic cups glued together and painted. The tails had posterboard inside them. (Hey! I didn't really understand interfacing at the time...) And the staff was just a flagpole with sharpie marks and a pipecleaner, hot glue, and ring necklace mess.

I also tried to use my own hair again. Ha.

This was not a happy costume for me. The sweater was old and itchy and combined with Baltimore humidity, I was just not in a good mood most of the time.


This Otakon, the OUIWoGMCCG returned! Neoqueenhoneybee as Adora and Don Raphael as Calintz, both from Phantom of Avalanche.

Oh, Lord. Can we just not talk about this costume? It was very rushed. And... and... crushed velvet. .__.|||

Also my first wig. Complete with hot-glue ahoge.

My lack of skill is showing but I've learned a lot of 'Do Not's making this costume!

The only thing I was proud of in this costume is the painted obi tail. Because I'm not that good at painting but that design came out pretty nicely!

This was the Otakon Neoqueenhoneybee and I dedicated to HTK. And with her cousin, Don Raphael, and our friend, Soni, we were the representing members of the OUIWoGMCCG (Official Unofficial International War of Genesis and Magna Carta Cosplay Group) at Otakon.

Sherazard (War of Genesis 3) @ Otakon 2003

Sherazard's dress was very simple and only the neck scarf thing gave me some trouble. The hand guards were simple foamies. Best thing about the costume was that I could wear sneakers and no one would know! So comfortable...

The dress was made from a heavy short pile velvet though. While not the best fabric choice, I think it worked out ok.

This was the Otakon Neoqueenhoneybee and I dedicated to HTK. And with her cousin, Don Raphael, and our friend, Soni, we were the representing members of the OUIWoGMCCG (Official Unofficial International War of Genesis and Magna Carta Cosplay Group) at Otakon. Neoqueenhoneybee was WoG3P2 Joan, Don Raphael was WoG3P2 Saladin, and Soni wore Neo's Beramode costume.

Carlos van Tairun (War of Genesis 3: Part 2) @ Anime Expo 2002

So. Neoqueenhoneybee and I discovered Korean artist Hyung Tae Kim and War of Genesis 3. Even though we weren't very skilled, we wanted to promote his awesome arts!

Making Carlos was... interesting. I had picked up a shiny rubberized? pleather-backed? denim at a fabric warehouse and I took up inspiration from the gold leaf in leather bound books and ironed-on gold leaf onto the non-denim side of the fabric. Since it was plastic, it melted just a bit enough to stick to the gold leaf! And amazingly, the gold leaf I bought also stuck to printer ink! So the dragon was an inaccurate dragon grabbed off the internet and printed on paper. I then ironed on foil to the paper which stuck only to the ink, then ironed on the paper to fabric which was stickier than the ink. Presto! Gold leaf transfer.

The waist cape and sword sheaths were pretty fail though. I remember struggling a lot with metal coat hangers...

And we didn't exactly discover wigs yet. ^^;;

Makimachi Misao (Rurouni Kenshin) @ Anime Expo 2002

Still very much a n00b in weeaboo state.

Having had Katsucon under my belt, I decided to go full into cosplay! My favorite anime at the time was Rurouni Kenshin so I had to cosplay from it. I chose Misao because her outfit was pretty simple.

This was a very memorable cosplay for me because it was the year Nobuhiro Watsuki, the mangaka for Rurouni Kenshin, came to AX. I was in line for his autograph when it was cut just three people ahead of me. But thankfully, because I was in cosplay, I managed to get a picture with him after his panel!

Puchiko (DiGi Charat) @ Katsucon 2002

My very first cosplay costume.

My dear friend, Neoqueenhoneybee, was quite excited about this event she went to and said I should go too and dress up in a costume. She had a DiGi Charat costume and her college friend was going to be Rabi-en-Rose so I got drafted into Puchiko.

I made the entire outfit except for the hat on a single stitch machine using fabrics scrounged up from my grandmother's stash. Hat was made by Neoqueenhoneybee. ♥

All in all, not a bad first costume.
